unless you re too young to know or have been living under a rock for the past twenty years, there s little chance that you haven t come across marc romboy s music in one way or another. the systematic recordings boss has had many irons on the fire since establishing his first imprint, the now defunct le petit prince - gathering an untold number of releases on labels as diverse as ovum, innervisions, rebirth or 20:20 vision in his two decades of intense activity. tracing back to 1994, when he used to rummage through the crates of delirium - the primitive incarnation of kompakt (closed and revived under its new name in 1998), the friendship between romboy and the kompakt family has largely withstood the test of time. after losing touch for a few years, romboy and michael mayer would resume contact during a festival in the south of france - a reunion that eventually led to systematic joining kompakt s distribution catalogue a couple months later.

this eight-track double vinyl album collects the strongest disco mixes to appear on the label. five are by moulton and others are by issy sanchez and hippie torales. generally only originally available as promo 12”s or within commercially released albums, they are fine demonstrations of the skills of the mixers as well as the talents of the artists. the music stretches from the extended soul groove of the detroit emeralds’ “feel the need”, to the proto electro sounds behind the clark sisters’ “you brought the sunshine”, and includes cj & co’s “devil s gun” - the first record to be played at the iconic studio 54 - as well as obscurities by eramus hall and the crowd pleasers.

still steamin from his turner street sound collaboration, midnight tenderness serves up a dreamy first solo offering with a fire-cracker of a four-tracker for sydneys ken oath records. the opener refresco is a bleary eyed house number with gently propulsive 707 cowbells and shaker rhythms over smooth pads & an infectiously jazzy bassline. the four to the floor mould is quickly broken as the ep progresses - terme is a midtempo electro track that retains all of the dreaminess of refresco while punching in some swish drum programming. flipping the record over, bevanda is a sweaty miasma of sub-bass, fm flutes and birdlike synth leads that could soundtrack an imaginary club located in the middle of queenslands tropical rainforests. the eps closer, hydra, pushes the tempo way down and introduces some smooth guitar licks, courtesy of riffin rory as well as some lithe flute play. the end result is a sleazy new jack swing jam that works as well for warm-up as it does for cooling down. if youre tired of buying boring club 12inches, look no further! this one will be as comfortable coming through your home stereo as it will be in the club

from the boom of the international neo-lounge revival italy has become the point of attraction of an almost maniacal interest. there is a lot of research work from different italian labels behind it. thanks to them even the latest generations have the chance to meet the made in italy sound of the soundtracks and library music and even more notoriety has been given to the genial arrangers, composers and musicians who have characterised the italian lounge scene of 60’s/70’s, such as ennio morricone and piero piccioni. a precious recovery of the past to revitalise the present, which builds up new ideas of the future. “metti una bossa a cena”, whose title is completely inspired by the famous soundtrack of ennio morricone, goes on into this research field, discovering very rare tracks of this italian bossa panorama. we believe the result is perfect. gerardo frisina, track compiler of this project, has brought to light some rare tracks and perfectly matched them to create an unique and elegant thread.
